G.E.I. S.p.A. traces its roots back to the early 20th century when it operated under the name Norzi S.A., established in 1908. Initially focused on producing flavors and fragrances for the confectionery industry, including cakes, pastries (Panettone, Pandoro Panforte, Cornetto), wine (Marsala, Vermouth), liquors, and soft drinks.

Under the Aromitalia trademark, G.E.I. S.p.A. pioneered an innovative approach to formulating recipes, simplifying and synthesizing the intricate processes used by Gelato Maestros for gelato production. Aromitalia products quickly became synonymous with quality, convenience, and flexibility, providing a reliable foundation for newcomers to the ancient craft of gelato production.

The renowned expertise and revolutionary products, such as the famous DoppiaPanna Olandese, led various confectionery companies to collaborate with APE S.A. for the development and manufacturing of products under their trademark. In 1972, Gruppo Essenziero Italiano (G.E.I. Spa) was established to fulfill the vision of its founder, Guglielmo Ferrero. This integral company included brands like Aromitalia (semi-finished products for gelato and pastry), Nectar (research, development, and manufacturing of essences and flavorings), Gelsystem (specialized in a new type of ice cream produced in the province of Turin), and a high-tech research and development laboratory directed by his son, Cristiano.

After Guglielmo’s untimely death in 1974, Cristiano expanded G.E.I. Spa’s production and distribution boundaries. The company extended its reach to Germany in 1976, Spain in 1979 (with the establishment of Aromitalia Iberica S.A.), Argentina in 1980, the USA in 1997, Brazil in 1998 (adopting a similar production and distribution model as Argentina), Mexico in 2003 (founding NaturaLit Mexico S.A.), and Romania in 2009 (directly with Helit Italian Flavor S.r.l.).

To accommodate its growing global presence, G.E.I. Spa relocated from the historic site in Turin to a new production facility in Settimo Torinese in 2007, boasting over 27,000 square meters, with 11,500 square meters dedicated to covered areas. Today, G.E.I. Spa and its products represent a global market, showcasing the company’s commitment to innovation and excellence.
