Kikwear, Inc. is an American apparel wholesaler Founded in 1991. introduced its distinctive clothing line in 1992, characterized by its blend of simplicity and edginess. The initial collection included screen t-shirts, bb caps, hoodies, shorts, and, notably, pants. The brand found early recognition through the iconic character Chucky, a Rasta-inspired figure created by the renowned NY graffiti artist Doze Green. Chucky became the face of the brand, adorning a range of products and establishing Kikwear’s identity in the fashion landscape.
In 1993, responding to the emerging Rave scene, a key account in San Francisco requested a 23″ bottom pant for their store. This was the onset of the Rave Movement in Northern California, marked by individuals sporting homemade “wide leg” pants. Capitalizing on this trend, Kikwear swiftly introduced wider leg pants, now popularly known as “phatties.” The response was overwhelming, with denim pants selling out rapidly, signaling Kikwear’s successful foray into the evolving fashion landscape of the Southern California Rave Movement.
