Since 1993, Anne Geller, CEO of Thunder Ridge Emu Products, has been raising emus on her 30-acre ranch outside of Manassas, Virginia. The ranch, situated in the foothills of the Shenandoah Mountains, is home to over 200 emus, flightless birds native to Australia, making Thunder Ridge the largest emu farm in the eastern United States.

Inspired by the low-pitched thunder sound that female emus make, Ms. Geller named both the farm and her company Thunder Ridge. The Australian aborigines’ affectionate term for emus, translating to “thunder chicken,” further influenced the choice.

Thunder Ridge stands out for its unique all-natural feed program, a customized blend of grains and minerals. The farm adheres to a drug-free approach, with no use of steroids, antibiotics, growth hormones, or animal proteins in their emu meat and oil products.

Emu meat, recommended by the American Heart Association for being low in fat and cholesterol while high in protein and iron, has garnered recognition for its taste, often likened to lean beef, by top chefs and discerning consumers.

Emu Oil, known for its moisturizing, anti-inflammatory, and healing properties, has been utilized for thousands of years by Australian aborigines. In the current millennium, it remains one of the most promising ancient remedies gaining popularity.
